Personal History

Hi my name is Jacob Cantlin and I am currently 22 years old. I have been riding for about 17 years and racing for 13 years off and on. I started out on a Yamaha pw50 and as I got older and more experienced I moved up in bike size to a yz250. When I was 17 years I graduated from high school and decided to join the Marine Corps. Joining the Marines meant moving around alot and being stationed on base in numerous different states. For a rider though this was an advantage to me to ride in different kinds of atmospheres and a variety of riding styles. Though it was hard to find time to get practice and races in I knew it was something I didn't want to give up and my devotion for the sport meant too much for me to just give up. So I managed to race on my 250 but unfortunately ended up breaking my leg which led me to put riding on hold. It killed me to sit and look at my bike and know that I couldn't do one of the things I enjoyed the most. My marines career from there on took off and I had been deployed to Afghanistan and got seriously hurt and was medivacted home and causing me to have two hip surgeries. Not only did this set me back, but kept me off the track for quite some time. I decided then that it was time to sell my bike because not being able to ride meant no point in having it. Now I'm out of the marines, healed up and more than anything wanting to be racing again. Not only am I doing it for myself this time, but for my wifes little brother and his friend who are new to racing and want to see what they can do. Riding for as many years as I did and having such strong passion and dedication for racing I knew this was something I wanted to share with them and teach them as much as I know. Being around people who are just as excited and happy to be doing the same thing you are creates positivity and gets me to challenge myself not only physically, but mentally and emtionally as well. So I went out and bought a yzf450 x, meaning I switched from a dirtbike to quad.  Are season is about to start and we have been out practing and putting in any time we can on a track. The best part about racing is the enjoyment you get out of it and having a great support system there for you. My wife and her family support me and her brother all the way. They see how happy this makes me, and how her little brother is improving and starting to get that "can't get enough of this" feeling. It makes a big difference knowing no matter win or lose they are going to be there cheering you on, being behind you the whole way through. The other kid that goes with us also has great parents who are willing to let their son travel and do something that makes him happy. They want to see us accomplish our goals and have fun. At the end of the day that's all that really matters to me.

Not  marines and my fiance brother who is 13 asked me to teach him and his best friend how to race so i bought a new yfz450 and we are about to start my first season back and there first one ever.

Riding Goals

My riding goals for this year are to continue pushing my limits, improve my endurance and challenge myself to be the best rider I can be. I also want to have a successful riding year and hopefully pull a few wins along the way. Last I want to see these kids have fun and learn how to be great riders and have the same love for the sport that I do.
